About Ceningan, Lembongan and Nusa Penida

  • Exciting and beautiful islands for diving, day trips or sight seeing
  • Dramatic scenery, cliffs, waterfalls, beaches and adventure
  • Something for everyone who wants to see a little outside the main island, Bali

Nusa Penida, Ceningan and Lembongan are the islands off the east coast of Bali. Nusa Penida is the most famous and has become a bit of a paradise for luxury tourism. But backpackers also come here and it's really worth a few days here. The smaller neighboring islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan are also wonderful and offer, sightseeing, adventure, relaxation and beautiful beaches and of course diving. There are extremely exciting rock formations here and they plunge dramatically down to the sea. You can watch waterfalls which can be an adventure just to get to. Discover hidden beaches that ignite the spirit of adventure and some of them are extremely photogenic. Overall, there is a lot of fun here to see and experience for a few days in combination with your Bali stay.

To get here you do from Bali, Sanur and there are lots of boats going here daily. It is also possible to go from Candidasa on day trips for diving. If you want to stay here and dive for a few days, we will book a boat for you with the help of the diving center. The boats are often full when the islands beckon or people go on to the popular Gili Islands. Many of these boats stop at Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida on the way. The small island of Ceningan is perhaps the least known and you can only get here by boat from Lembongan or by moped over the incredibly narrow bridge that connects the islands.

Combine the diving here with a few days in Bali where you can also dive more. Or take a round trip that includes diving here at the islands. Or spice up your diving trip and liveaboard in Indonesia with a few extra days out here at the islands.

About the diving around Nusa Penida

  • Crystal Bay, one of the best places in the world to see Mola mola, (lumpy fish)
  • Mantas all year round, different species of sharks sometimes
  • Coral gardens, slopes, walls, current dives

The diving out here is done almost exclusively around Nusa Penida. Dive sites such as the coral garden which is teeming with marine life with corals in all its forms as well as rays, pusher fish, puffer and trunk fish, dragon fish, bumphead parrot fish, clown fish, scorpion fish, emperor fish, barracuda and also various species of sharks. Perhaps what has made Nusa Penida most famous for diving is probably that during the season it is possible to see and dive with Mola mola or lumpfish. This is truly a strange fish and well worth trying at least one day's diving in season to get the chance to see these very strange fish.

But there is also exciting current diving on the north side where there is a chance to see different species of shark including whale sharks, dolphins and much more. The western and southern parts are also known for offering diving with manta rays. There are often strong currents and winds in the area here and this can mean that diving is not possible every day of the year, but when it is, it is outstanding diving with these angels of the sea. Everything from one or two manta rays up to around thirty come in and allow themselves to be cleaned and treated at the cleaning stations that are here. Here, stingrays and other smaller cartilaginous fish are often found among the rock blocks.

It is possible to do these dives with Mola mola and manta rays as day trips but we suggest staying out here for a few nights because there is a lot to experience both below and above the surface. Contact us and we will book you with one of Bali's best diving centers and accommodations.
