There are several different safaris and different routes in the Maldives, all offering different types of diving. There is wreck diving here but perhaps the most popular and requested diving is where you can see blanket and whale shark. Manta rays are almost guaranteed here. There are certain places and grooming stations that are real magnets for these amazing animals. Whale sharks are common and there are places where they often patrol along the reefs. These huge, harmless fish attract both diving and snorkelling. Turtles and dolphins are also popular and you often see these wonderful animals here too.
Learn to dive on a liveaboard or combine with being on land
Even if you don't dive, you can experience these enormous fish. Snorkeling and free diving in the Maldives are very popular and for those of you who don't dive, it's at least as good to go here and experience the beautiful reefs. There are even liveaboard which offers diving courses on board for you who want to learn to dive here.
Other popular liveaboards in the Maldives are tours that go further south where there is perhaps the very best diving in the Maldives. Some liveaboards go here during parts of the year. The sea here is a bit rougher and the currents can be strong but when you dive here it's with big fish. Everything from tiger sharks, hammerhead sharks, swordfish, marlins, large tunas and various reef sharks that are common here. If you want to go on these tours, you often get to fly in small planes to or from the southern parts, and that alone is an experience to see these paradise islands and reefs from above.
