About land-based diving in Bali

Indonesia has an unusually high diversity of marine life and diving sites. The country has over 16 islands spread over a huge area around the equator. Here at the so-called coral triangle, one can only imagine the richness of species that exists under the sea surface. Bali is one of these 000 islands and probably Indonesia's most popular diving destination. Millions of tourists come here every year for sun, swimming, holidays, nightlife, shopping, culture, yoga, adventure, excursions and nature experiences, but also for diving. With many excellent accommodations to choose from and various areas offering land-based diving in Bali, diving here has grown tremendously in recent years.

Bali is suitable for its land-based diving all year round but has its peak season and best weather normally between April - November. Christmas and New Year are almost always fully booked, but the weather can be a bit moody. Most rain normally falls during January and February. The north-western part of Bali is generally the driest part of the island and here people grow and even make wine nowadays. No liveaboard drive in Bali. This is because there is nowhere to seek shelter and anchor and all diving is easily accessible directly from land.

Dive areas in Bali

Tulamben on Bali's northeast coast is a well-known diving destination and the most popular for diving. Here you get a good combination of reefs and fantastic macro diving. Here you also have wreck diving at Liberty wreck and Kubu wreck. Other famous areas for land-based diving in Bali are Secret Bay on the island's northwest point. Candidasa in the east with very good diving and not least the blue lagoon. Amed on the northeast side has nice reefs and very good macro diving. Puri Jati at the northern tip of Bali offers very exciting and strange macro diving. You also have the option of taking a day trip to the famous islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan for a chance to dive alongside mola molas and manta rays.

The northwest part of Bali also has a lot to offer you as a diver. Here in Pemuteran Bay, dive at Menjangan Island and its protected marine park. There are really nice coral reefs and lots of fish here. A land-based diving trip here in Bali is not quite complete without a visit to Ubud as well. We strongly recommend that you spend one or a few nights in this scenic area in the middle of the island or why not combine it with diving in Sulawesi where you can easily fly and experience diving at Bunaken. Bangka, Gangga and Lembeh outside herd. It is also easy to combine with Raja Ampat if you want to combine with the great diving there.
