Jordan

Jordan is the young country with an old history – it is the bridge between the sea and the desert – between East and West. Many people think of the ancient and mythical rock city of Petra when they hear Jordan - which is not so strange. Petra is truly one of the Middle East's most spectacular sights - perhaps the city competes with both Machu Picchu and Angkor Wat for the title of world's most fascinating lost city? We consider Jordan to be one of the most complete diving trips you can take as it is so easy to get experiences on land. Simply a fantastic diving trip.

If you are in Jordan, Petra is well worth a visit - but the country also has so much else to offer. At well-known Wadi Rum, you will encounter fascinating rock formations that stick out of the red desert sand. Take the opportunity to spend the night in a tented camp and experience a night in the desert. Contrast that with the clear blue Gulf of Aqaba, which is filled with beautiful coral and teeming with marine life. You encounter palm-lined green areas that are so different from the lifeless, salty Dead Sea. In addition, you meet friendly people everywhere and you get to experience the colorful Arab culture. The country's mild climate and warm waters make it an excellent destination for divers and non-divers alike. There is a lot of history to experience here and the food is consistently very good.

Exciting diving in the Red Sea

The diving in Jordan is exciting and here they have sunk half an army of combat vehicles, trucks and even planes to help the marine life form an artificial reef. Naturally, this means that diving will grow enormously here in the future. Diving is easy and you dive directly from land. Combine your diving with a visit to Wadi Rum, Petra and possibly Amman with a stop at the Dead Sea. A really exciting, culturally and historically interesting trip for those who like to focus on diving but want to supplement with additional experiences.

Aqaba is a very nice city, directly at The red sea not at all far from Egypt and here you will find lots of good restaurants and the food is amazingly good. That alone is worth going here for and every day you can experience new dishes and new places with meetings with new people. Did you know that Jordan has one of the world's best educated populations? It rarely gets boring in Jordan and people are very nice and humble overall. Jordan on the Red Sea is perfect for a diving trip and holiday for anyone, for couples, solo travelers or groups. Book your diving trip here and you will have an amazing adventure. It's easy to get here and Aqaba has its own international airport

Travel information Jordan

  • Time zone: +2 GMT (default), +3 GMT (April - September)
  • Currency: Jordanian Dinar (JD), US dollars or Euros. Try to exchange large notes as often as possible, in large restaurants and shops. A JD consists of 1000 fils. You will also hear about the piastre and qirsh, both of which are 10 fils (10 qirsh equals 100 fils). Often the unit is not specified, so if you see something costing 25 you need to find out if it is 25 fils, 25 piastres or 25 dinars! Credit cards: Most restaurants, larger souvenir shops and bookstores accept the most common credit cards. Be sure to ask if they add a surcharge for card purchases, as this can sometimes be as much as 5%.
  • Languages: Arabic and English.
  • Water: In general, the tap water in Jordan is safe to drink, but if you are only here for a short visit, it is better to take the safe before the unsafe and boil the water for 10 minutes, alternatively drink bottled water. But remember to only drink water from bottles with unbroken packaging. The tap water in southern Jordan and especially in Wadi Rum comes from natural springs in Diseh and is extremely clean.
  • Visa: Max 30 days for tourists. Visa is required for all foreign travelers. These are issued at the airport on arrival (JD10). There are money changers next to the counters where you fix the visa, ATMs are only available after the visa is issued.
  • Health: In Jordan, the standard of health is high. Most cities have well-stocked pharmacies, but be sure to always check the expiration date on medications. It is good to bring special and important medicines from home and to also bring a copy of the prescription. Telephone numbers for pharmacies (including those open at night) and hospitals in Aqaba can be found in the two English-language newspapers.
  • Pressure Chamber: Found in Aqaba.
  • Country code: +962
  • Electricity: 220-230 volts. The same plugs as at home so an adapter is not necessary, however, it can be good to have if your electronic gadgets have grounded cords because then the pins are too thick for the wall sockets. C, D, F, G and J type contacts.
  • Climate: For such a small country, Jordan has an incredibly varied climate. The best time to visit is during spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November), when the daytime temperature is not extremely high. April is probably the best month with wonderfully warm temperatures and many colorful plants in bloom. Aqaba's average maximum temperature in January is around 20°C.
  • Current water temperature and average sea temperature per month
  • Tipping: Tipping 10% of the bill when dining out is common courtesy and expected in finer restaurants. Some hotels and restaurants usually automatically add a 10% service charge. Tips are often a large part of the salary for many who work in the service industry so rounding up to the nearest 250 fils or giving loose change is much appreciated, also applies to taxi drivers.
  • Food: Street food like falafel or shwarma sandwich is cheap and you can get a decent meal for JD1 to JD3. In a mid-range restaurant you can expect to pay JD1 for a starter and from JD1.500 to JD2.500 for most main courses.
  • Attractions: One of the most expensive entrance fees in Jordan is the entrance to Petra (up to JD31 for three days, depending on the season), but it's worth it! Entry to other popular attractions such as Jerash costs JD5, but most places are free or only cost a dinar or two.
