Tulum and Cenote diving in Mexiko

08 - 19 November 2021

Experience - Under the Yucatan Peninsula's seemingly solid limestone bedrock, there is a network of caves that have largely been under water for thousands of years. During the last ice age, the sea level dropped, leaving a huge plateau of soft and porous limestone. The bedrock of this plateau is originally volcanic, but it is only the top layer of limestone from ancient coral reefs that we can explore. A cenote is a cave whose roof collapsed and opened a window to the world above ground. Cenotes vary in shape and size, but all give entry to a fantastic underwater world, where you can see stalagmites, stalactites, magical sunlight ("God beams") and almost unlimited visibility.

Your accommodation - The accommodation at ProTec in Tulum focuses on minimalist and a fresh design with the diver's in focus. There are three single rooms and three double rooms available with a shared kitchen and living room. The accommodation is located on the second floor of ProTec's diving center. The single rooms available at The BaseCamp are equipped with a Queen size bed and the double rooms are equipped with two single beds. All rooms have their own private bathroom which includes a toilet, shower, hot water and good water pressure. At The BaseCamp, all guests have full access to a small but fully functional shared kitchen where you can easily prepare breakfast, lunch or dinner. In addition, food can be enjoyed on the balcony. In addition to Protecs rooms we also have similiar rooms on the other side of the road so we can accomodate everyone.

Our ambassador ..... - Anders Etander, started diving in 1989 when a diving certificate was obtained at Kullaberg in Skåne. Now, just over 1600 dives later, everything is as fun, fantastic, exciting and wonderful as when the trip began in 1989. In addition to wreck diving in the Baltic Sea and mining in Sweden, Anders travels a lot and has dived in 17 different countries around the world. Anders is certified to +100 m on both open system and rebreather and educates as a technical instructor on open system and side mount down to 70 meters. He is an active mine diving instructor where he educates Mine Diver 1 & 2 (basic and advanced course) within NAUI.

Before the trip: For those who wish, you can train or prepare for more advanced diving by booking a course directly with Anders. You will get in touch with him directly here.

About Mexiko

In the middle between America and South America is an exciting Latin American country that is appreciated for its good food culture with their tacos that have managed to influence the Swedish Friday nights and become a big favorite. The country has also influenced our Nordic neighbors with its entertaining and colorful Piñatas which have managed to be a fun addition to parties and holidays in Sweden. Cinco de Mayo, the great and important religious holiday Día de los muertos, the classic alcohol Tequila, fantastic sandy beaches and its archeological pyramids, have put Mexico on the map and have managed to mark the country as an entertaining and unique travel experience for many travelers.

Along the Caribbean coastline is the wonderful area of Tulum which is best known for its beaches and well preserved ruins as well as the spectacular dive sites available. Because Tulum is located along the Caribbean coastline, the city is close to the second largest barrier reef in the world, where you can dive through this magical reef that stretches for 300 kilometers. Mexico has some of the most beautiful caves in the world and this also applies to the Tulum area which is home to fantastic cenotes that are available to all certified divers, from new divers to more technical and experienced divers.
