Diving trip Azores - Europe's Galapagos, 13 September 2025 with Magnus Lundgren
Join us on a diving trip to the wonderful Azores, the islands in the Atlantic that are often described as Europe's own Galapagos. Out here in the crystal blue sea, you dive and experience, for example, blue sharks, mobilas and sometimes other large fish and mammals. The waters around the Azores offer great experiences many times and if you're lucky, whale sharks, sperm whales, dolphins and other whales can pass out of the blue. There are also large quantities of fish but also invertebrates such as squid, corals, anemones, echinoderms, crustaceans and nudibranchs. Join Scuba Trave's ambassador Magnus Lundgren on this diving trip to the Azores - Europe's own Galagos!
Pico Island, The small island of Pico in the western Azores is one of the best places in the world to see and dive with blue sharks, snorkel with dolphins and sperm whales. Large amounts of mobilase are also often seen here. Here, there is also lovely nature on land and good time for relaxation. You fly here via Lisbon on mainland Portugal. The island is small but almost always offers great experiences.
Accommodation in the Azores
Your accommodation - You stay at a hotel on the small island of Pico where you have breakfast included. The days will be spent diving where some days can be long out at sea. The hotel offers late relaxation and time to recharge the batteries between diving days. It offers massage and internet and there is a swimming pool. The hotel is simple but functional and after long days at sea you will sleep well.
Two days of diving locally with two dives per day, three days of shark watching and one day to Princess Alice are planned.
Our ambassador: Magnus Lundgren - Magnus has 30 years of experience in leading expeditions all over the world, which ensures that the trip gets an extra spice. "It is always my goal to inform and inspire before the fantastic dives and experiences we have ahead of us. Magnus' presentations can be about animals and nature, but also concrete tips about the photo opportunities that lie ahead.
It is also about practical tips on how we dive, to "hands on" camera coaching for those in need. The groups are always a mixed collection of photography divers and non-photography recreational divers who focus on experiencing. It's always a mix and everyone is equally welcome.” This diving trip to the Azores in Portugal is an adventure where you never know what will turn up but when it does, it's pure magic!

About diving in the Azores
The Azores are located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and are surrounded by a clear blue sea with often fantastic visibility when you get a little out to sea. The archipelago consists of a total of nine islands that lie close to 1500 kilometers out to sea from mainland Portugal. The islands are of volcanic origin and are divided into three groups, the eastern, central and eastern. Pico Island is easily identified for Mt Pico which is over 2300 meters high and Portugal's highest point. It is even one of the highest mountains in the world if you measure from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. The islands are known for dolphins, whales and various species of shark, but here there is a lot of varied diving and depending on the choice of island, you will be able to experience completely different types of marine life.
Pico has been known for a long time as a dream destination for many divers, and many who dream of snorkelling or seeing humpback whales and dolphins often go here. Near the island of Pico and Faial is also the Princess Alice dive site which is a group of offshore banks where mobulas often gather and can offer fantastic experiences and diving. In these waters you also frequently see blue sharks, one of the world's perhaps most beautiful sharks and which you have the opportunity to experience during a full-day trip.
In addition to mobulas and sharks, the waters are often visited by various species of whales, dolphins and the waters around the islands offer spectacular rock formations and on some of the islands there are also wrecks to dive on. The days are spent at sea in a zodiac and, depending on the weather and winds, you obviously look for the best possible place for variety and experiences.
