Liveaboard to Socorro or adventure diving at its best. Dive alongside giant manta rays, play with dolphins, dodge up to seven different shark species and, if you're lucky, be mesmerized by migrating humpback whales. Join the Scuba Travel ambassador Magnus Lundgren to Socorro, Mexico in March 2026. From January to March, these islands are home to a migrating population of humpback whales that come to nest and have calves. You can also observe manta rays at grooming stations, bottlenose dolphins, wahoo, tuna, marlin and smaller creatures such as moray eels, nudibranchs and octopus.
Help, San Benedicto and Roca Partida are three volcanic islands that make up the Revillagigedo Islands. The three islands go by the name Socorro among divers. The archipelago is best known for the wonderful encounters with large Pacific manta rays, dolphins and up to seven different sharks, including whale sharks, silky sharks, silvertip sharks, whitetip reef sharks and sometimes even tiger sharks.
Liveboard
Your accommodation - You live on board the liveaboard boat Rocio del Mar. A lovely liveaboard with room for up to 20 divers. All inclusive is included on board and of course there is plenty of diving with up to four dives per day for a total of six diving days. It is planned for 6 days of diving with 3-4 dives / day at Socorro during your trip. Please note that night diving is not permitted.
Our ambassador: Magnus Lundgren - Magnus has 30 years of experience in leading expeditions all over the world, which ensures that the trip gets an extra spice. "It is always my goal to inform and inspire before the fantastic dives and experiences we have ahead of us. Magnus' presentations can be about animals and nature, but also concrete tips about the photo opportunities that lie ahead.
It is also about practical tips on how we dive, to "hands on" camera coaching for those in need. The groups are always a mixed collection of photography divers and non-photography recreational divers who focus on experiencing. It's always a mix and everyone is equally welcome.” Our dive trip and liveaboard to the Socorro Islands is an adventure where you never know what will turn up but anything can happen, just anything!

About Socorro
The Socorro Islands have long been a dream destination for many divers. The islands have diving of the same caliber as the better known Galapagos Islands and Cocos off Costa Rica. One of Socorro's many hallmarks are the gigantic and almost tame giant manta rays that are known to be extremely swimming up to the divers on site. Many of the giant manta rays have a fin width of 5 or 6 meters. Socorro is dubbed by divers as one of the very best places available to encounter and photograph graceful Pacific manta rays in XL format.
In addition to the large manta rays, Socorro is also known as a shark paradise where we have good chances to experience many different shark species up close. On the possible wish list are large shoals of hammerhead sharks, which then becomes an unforgettable sight that will probably take your breath away. Soccoro's shark list includes: hammerhead shark, silky shark, silvertip shark, Galapagos shark, whitetip reef shark, dusky shark and tiger shark. It happens more often than you might think that divers swim side by side with dolphins and giant humpback whales.
The ship that will take you on this adventure is called Rocio del Mar. The liveaboard launches from the port of Cabo San Lucas, the southernmost part of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. Then you have a 24 to 27 hour boat ride (approximately 400 km) ahead of you before you reach your remote dive destination of Socorro. Then your Socorro adventure can begin!
