Blue Ocean Dive Resort is a leading dive operator in Aliwal Shoal. Here you can count on high quality, personal service and a relaxed atmosphere. They love what they do, and have just as much fun as their guests. At Blue Ocean Dive Resort you don't pay a single room supplement, which means that if you are travelling alone you don't have to pay extra.
The resort is beautifully situated overlooking the Indian Ocean and Umkomaas Golf Course. They are the only dive operator in the area to offer hotel accommodation, a restaurant and bar with sea views, and a dive centre, all on the same property. The charming building, built in 1934, is a classic landmark in Umkomaas and along the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal. It combines comfort and convenience with genuine character.
Their facilities are ideal for both individual divers and larger groups. They have three boats (eight divers per boat, with the possibility of a fourth if needed), and their Dive Lodge can accommodate up to 54 guests.
From the moment they pick you up at the airport until they drop you off again, their goal is for you to feel like you've found your second home. A place to relax, let go of everyday life and enjoy diving.

Diving with Blue Ocean
Blue Ocean Dive Resort offers a wide range of dives and dive packages, which can be easily customized to your time, experience and how much you want to dive! Whether you want to do a few casual dives or dive every day, they will help you create your perfect diving experience.
The dive sites at Aliwal Shoal are simply spectacular! The reef formation, which stretches for about 3 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide, offers something for everyone. Everything from large pelagic species to fascinating macro life. Here you will find both the beautiful and the wild, the colorful and the adrenaline-filled.
The area also has two wreck dives, both unique and unforgettable in their own way. And of course, the area's specialty – shark diving.
Aliwal Shoal is located in the heart of a marine protected area, meaning fishing is prohibited and all marine life is protected. It also means we always dive with respect – no touching, teasing or taking anything from the sea. It’s all about experiencing and preserving the amazing underwater world.
In the different packages you can also get diving in the well-known area of Protea Banks. Here, during the season, you can encounter bull sharks, hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks, Oceanic blacktips and Ragged-tooth sharks – sometimes several on the same dive. Everything is done with enormous respect, both for the animals and for you as a diver. The so-called “scented shark dives” are a prime example of how encounters with large predators can be done in a way that is both controlled, ethical and incredibly powerful. No tricks. This way you get close to the large animals on their terms.
The diving can be demanding with strong currents and deep waters – if you are an experienced diver it is an experience you will carry with you for a long time. Because here you are not just a spectator – you are part of and in the middle of the spectacle.
Protea Banks diving isn't for everyone, but for those who crave something that feels "real", it's hard to beat.
