Diving at Bunaken and around Manado
The island of Bunaken is one of five islands located at the Bunaken Marine Park. The sea around the islands is very deep, in some places over 600 meters. It is possible that the islands are like "mountain peaks" that reach the surface - imagine a submerged mountain range! It also attracts a lot of marine life.
The dive sites around Bunaken have dramatic cliffs, includingandathose with sloping areas and beautiful coral gardens on top of the reefs. Here there is a wide variety of soft and hard corals that create homes for multitudes of reef fish and small creatures.
Everywhere you can see shoals of fusiliers, butterflyfish, snapper, cardinalfish and pond fish. Many green and hawksbill turtles swim and rest on the reef walls. Larger species such as tuna, humpback, wahoo, barracuda and reef sharks are often seen swimming past the reef. Smaller creatures such as scorpion fish, shrimp, nudibranchs, dragon fish and sea horses hide in the walls.
Bunaken is a diving destination suitable for all levels. The steep walls down into the depths offer excellent opportunities for deep diving and it is an advantage to be an advanced diver to fully enjoy the dive sites.
In the shallow parts of the reef, about 4 meters deep, there is always an amazing and colorful coral garden, perfect for making the safety stop and taking the last underwater photos. These coral gardens are considered among the best in the world and also offer a great experience for snorkelers.
