Here you can discover a marine wonder at the world's fourth largest reef. An absolutely fantastic adventure and diving trip awaits you at Fiji and Kokomo Resort. The Great Astrolabe Reef stretches over 100 km and is a fantastic dive site for diving enthusiasts and exciting diving trips. Kokomo is located on the northeastern part of the Kadavu archipelago in southern Fiji. Here they offer several dive sites that are not visited by other resorts. You will be able to dive with large animals such as manta rays, reef sharks and turtles. Of course also much more when you explore the world below the surface and the rich marine life.
All guests are encouraged to participate in the resort's own reef restoration project. Together with the resort's team, you can learn to identify heat-tolerant corals or plant fragments of coral in one of their seven coral gardens. You can also learn how to transplant corals back to Kokomo's house reef. To date, Kokomo has transplanted over 2000 corals back to the house reef. They have expanded the number of coral plantations to accommodate over 3000 corals per season. They have added two new coral farms on the east side of the island and grow corals in three different types of nurseries.
In 2021, Kokomo resort launched a new project aimed at conserving sea turtles. In the face of a variety of threats; fishing, pollution, coastal expansion and changes in the climate, six out of seven turtle species have become endangered. In collaboration with a university, the team aims to monitor, preserve and protect the turtle nesting sites on nearby islands. In addition to gathering information about the turtles' nesting and foraging behavior in Fiji, an important part of the research is educating the local population. They want to create strong relationships with the community and get them involved in conservation.
Hawksbill and green turtle nests have already been identified. Both a nest on Kokomo Island and several others on nearby islands. You can find both species all year round on the house reef. They also have a project where you can also help identify manta rays. For those of you who wish, you can even adopt a manta. Unfortunately, some do not work liveaboard here longer but the diving is so good with accommodation from land that you will fully enjoy your diving trip to Fiji.
