Loloata Island Resort PNG is located just outside the capital Port Moresby. In the Motu language, Loloata has a literal meaning created from the words "loloa" and "ta" which translate to "a hill."

This lovely resort is located on its own island just over 30 minutes by ferry from the main island in Bootless Bay. In total, it is only just over an hour's total travel time from the international airport. There are currently 68 rooms in total. All rooms are of high standard.andard and many people go here for the day or take a weekend just to get out of the big city for a few hours and relax.
Diving resort with many years of history
Over the years, Lolata Island Resort in PNG has been mostly known as a diving resort. Here, surprisingly so close to the center of a capital city, you have incredibly good diving. The food is good and the diving can surprise. Everything from wobbegongs, hammerhead sharks to fantastic macro diving including the very spectacular weedy scorpionfish can appear. Diving trips to Papua New Guinea are a memory for life, not least all the meetings with people.
The resort offers packages with full board, transfers and diving. It is also a very nice place to relax for a few days and catch up with the time change before heading further into the country for experiences, your live board or other resort. Diving on Loloata Island
With over 30 dive sites to choose from in Bootless Bay surrounding Loloata Island Resort offers options for all divers. Many divers often overlook on their way to Milne Bay or Kimbe Bay that there is real quality diving just outside the capital Port Moresby. Contrary to what you might expect outside of a big city, you'll find fantastic corals, wall diving and different species of sharks. Everything from small bamboo sharks and epaulette sharks to large wobbegongs that are common here to shoals of hammerhead sharks and reef sharks. There are also many wrecks, several of which are from the Second World War. The macro life is very rich too so there is something for everyone.
Some of the best dive sites are concentrated along the coast and here are several barrier reefs. Many are absolutely fantastic under the right conditions, they have an almost magical diversity of fish.
Loloata Island Resort in Bootless Bay has a great reputation with the international diving community. It has been a must-see stop on the way to or from Port Moresby for many years. The now completely renovated resort now offers much higher standardandard has most dive sites less than a 30 minute boat ride away. Two to three dives per day are offered. A selection of PADI diving courses are available. Learning to dive or upgrading your current certification and skills has never been easier. A hot tip: Loloata is an excellent place to see and photograph the rather rare and very beautiful Rhinopas scorpionfish. They are found here and are usually seen in relatively large numbers.
