Thailand is the 50th largest country in the world by area and one of the world's 20 most populous countries.

In the northern parts of Thailand lies the highest point Doi Inthanon which is 2,565 meters above sea level. In the northeast, flows the mighty Mekong River which is approximately 4,900 kilometers long and is the longest river in Southeast Asia and the 12th longest in the world. The river originates on the Tibetan Plateau in China and flows through six countries.

Thailand's protected areas include over 400 national parks, nature reserves, game-free areas and forest parks. They cover almost 31 percent of the country's land area. Thailand is the second largest economy in Southeast Asia after Indonesia.

Thailand was long the world's eighth most visited country and the fourth highest in international tourism. Rice is the country's most important crop and Thailand has long been the world's leading exporter of rice, until recently falling behind both India and Vietnam.

When is the best time to go to Thailand?

The best time to dive in Thailand is all year round, but it depends on the region: November to April is ideal for AndaMansjön (west coast) when the sea is calmer and visibility is better, while May to September/October is optimal for the Gulf of Thailand (east coast) when it is calmer and less windy there. The Similan Islands, one of Thailand's most popular dive sites, are best visited between November and April.

What can I see when I dive in Thailand?

Thailand will offer a lot of fish and many different species, such as triggerfish, dragonfish, snappers, angelfish, crocodile fish and various butterflyfish.
In addition to coral and rocky reefs, what is usually most popular is to see large marine animals such as whale sharks, manta rays, leopard sharks, sea turtles, moray eels. It is also common to see seahorses, frogfish and nudibranchs and a number of other invertebrates. Octopuses are common and if you are lucky you can dive with them during mating season. A truly spectacular spectacle. There are also occasional wrecks to experience, places that attract a rich marine life.

Where is the best diving in Thailand?

Similan and Surin Islands in AndaMan Lake is considered by most to have the best diving in Thailand for experienced divers, offering world-class sites with clear water and a rich and diverse marine life. Larger species such as whale sharks and manta rays are common during the dry season. Other good sites include Hin Daeng & Hin Muang. These are two underwater peaks that rise from greater depths but do not reach the surface. They are located in AndaThe man lake where you often encounter large pelagic animals, especially mantas are common here. Richelieu rock, Surin Islands, Koh Bon are also among the most famous and better places. A liveaboard is clearly preferable to get to the best places.

There are other places that are talked about but maybe not as good diving spots a little closer to Phuket. Krabi, Kao Lak, Phi Phi islands and Koh Lanta are some. On the east coast there are Koh Samui and Koh Tao and Koh Phangan among others.

When and where are liveaboards and safaris available in Thailand?

There are lots of liveaboards in Thailand and standaThe world is different. Many boats are relatively simple compared to other parts of the world. Liveaboards in Thailand are offered in principle all year round on the west coast and with a few exceptions they go around the Similian Islands. There are still slightly different content and programs. Normally the liveaboards go two to seven nights depending on which route they run and the time of year.

Extra nights on site

It is very likely, almost certain that you will need a number of extra nights on the road or on site when you go on a liveaboard in Thailand. The flights from Scandinavia will probably match but to guard against delays and problems with luggage we recommend that you have at least a couple of nights before your liveaboard. Depending on your flight times and your planning, it can be nice to have one or a few extra nights both before your liveaboard departs but sometimes also after.

The climate is warm and tropical, with temperatures varying between 10-40 degrees depending on the season and where in the country you are. The rainy season usually lasts between May and November, when short but often heavy showers usually occur in the afternoon.

About 5-10% of the bill is common.

Casual attire is appropriate in all situations, even when visiting the finer, trendier restaurants.
