The Maldives is a republic located in the Indian Ocean and consisting of approximately 1 islands. The number actually varies depending on high or low tide. About 200 of the islands are inhabited. The Maldives consists of 200 natural atolls and several coral reefs. It is one of the world's flattest countries with a natural highest point of 26 meters above sea level. Weather conditions

The Maldives has two distinct seasons. The northeast monsoon which is between December and April with little rain and wind and stable weather mainly in the eastern atolls. The southwest monsoon is between May and October with usually more rain and stronger winds. The advantage of the Maldives is that there are rarely extreme weather conditions. You can go at any time of the year and the wind is rarely a problem for diving. November is a transition month and the weather can vary, but the diving is usually fantastic.

Stay in the Maldives, resort or liveaboard

If you want to visit the Maldives, you can choose how you want to stay. You can stay at a resort of the approximately 100 tourist islands that are spread over different atolls. An alternative to resort accommodation is to stay at a so-called guesthouse. Then you live on an island inhabited by the local population instead. You can also book a liveaboard. A typical island consists of coral sand, some type of vegetation and coconut palms. You often walk around the entire island in 20-30 minutes. Special course in stream diving on your liveaboard

A so-called PADI Drift Diver course is an excellent chance to get tips and ideas from professional instructors about what is good to keep in mind when diving in flowing water. You will learn the technique much faster during the course and will increase your diving time. In many cases, you can double your dive time if you move in the right way in the current.
