Dive center – Seasonchallenge
The diving center is right next to the hotel on the other side of the harbor avenue. You can easily get there via the bridge that crosses the street directly from the hotel. Skilled and committed staff work here who know the dive sites well. They will be able to offer you safe and comfortable diving even if it can be current at times. The dive center has several boats and the equipment is well maintained and looked after. Most dive sites are relatively close to the marina so there are usually no long trips. Here you experience different kinds of fish in varying sizes and sometimes in shoals of thousands of fish.
There are also strange crustaceans with crayfish, bear lobsters, crabs, shrimps, sea horses, moray eels, sea bass, squid, turtles, nudibranchs and much more. You sometimes experience slightly larger animals such as mobulas and stingrays and guitar sharks. If you're lucky, you might even see dolphins and pufferfish.
The RIB boats used here are designed for diving. They have a larger RIB that can take you to more remote dive sites in the middle of the ocean between Sao Miguel and Santa Maria. These dive sites require some experience but often offer huge amounts of fish in return. Mobulas, shark and sometimes actually whale shark. Unfortunately there are none liveaboard which goes here in the Azores. If you go on a diving trip here, diving from smaller boats and accommodation on land applies.
