Derawan Dive Lodge Borneo
Derawan Dive Lodge is located on the island of Derawan, which is the main island of an archipelago just off the coast of East Kalimantan, Borneo in Indonesia. The lodge is built on a private white sandy beach and, with just 10 rooms, is a perfect place for anyone who likes the personal touch on their holiday. It is precisely this very personal touch that makes the difference. The size of the resort creates its own unique feel of a boutique resort. While retaining their "lodge" label, they strive to emulate a resort standard given the limited resources on the island.
There is an incredible diversity of small marine life in shallow water here. As well as a constant presence of turtles cruising along the reef and out in deeper water. Add to this one of only two stingless Jellyfish lakes in the world and you are set for a perfect diving holiday!
The resort has two 14 meter long purpose-built dive boats and a fully independent diving center with nitrox. Along with professional and high service, Derawan Dive Lodge in Borneo is perfect for those who want to experience diving at its best. The well-trained and experienced diving team lives for diving, so each one of them is an ideal buddy below the surface.
It is possible to get to this part of the year during selected parts of the year Indonesia also with live board. Take the opportunity to visit the jungles of Borneo and make a visit where you can meet orangutans or proboscis monkeys or combine your diving trip with another resort in Indonesia, for example in herd or Bali.

Diving in the Derawan Archipelago
Derawan's unique location gives you the chance to see manta rays, a lake of non-burning jellyfish and schools of barracuda. Macro fans can enjoy well-trained guides who do their best to find pygmy seahorses, blueringed octopus and frogfish and more. Don't forget to bring your wish list and the guides will do everything they can to find just your favorites. The diving packages when you stay for a week include at least one day on each of the islands here:
Kakaban
Famous for a lake with jellyfish that does not burn, there are only two such lakes in the world. It is a tour not to be missed for both snorkelers and divers. The lake is located in the middle of the island and after a brisk walk of 15 minutes you find yourself in a completely different world. The non-stinging jellyfish live there and make for an interesting day trip. The property of not being burned arose when the jellyfish were trapped in the lake for probably centuries and since there are almost no larger predators in the lake, they begin to lose their natural defenses. The lake's brackish water and bottom covered in marine green algae also host a number of other species.
Kakaban Island's outer reef offers divers a wide variety of sites, from corals, large pelagics and even exciting cave dives, (experienced divers only).
Sangalaki
Here, manta rays and turtles rule. Your guide will try to find the manta hotspot and look for manta rays for you. There is a good chance you can see them clearly and up close when they eat here. It is an amazing sight to see these giants gliding majestically through the water. You can normally see Manta all year round here at Sangalaki. On the island there is a turtle school run by local leaders. For a small fee, you can visit the island and watch baby turtles take to the sea for the first time and begin a hopefully long journey.
Maratua
Here is the world famous diving site "The channel" or "Big Fish Country", with a little luck and the right timing you can see barracuda tornados, gray reef sharks and eagle rays. Another dive site for turtle lovers “Payung-Payung”. The day you can count all the turtles you see here we call a bad day. Thresher sharks are sometimes seen here as well.
Heaven
A wonderful dive site for those who are a nudibranch fan and like to take macro photos.
Pulau panjang
This is a dive site for those who like macro diving and seeing small things. Recently the Satomi Pygmy Seahorse has been seen here and the pygmy sea dragon or Lembeh sea dragon. Satomi's pygmy seahorse (Hippocampus satomiae) is the smallest known seahorse in the world with an average length of 13,8 millimeters and an approximate height of 11,5 millimeters.
Derawan
Derawan is a place for stream diving and muck diving. Ghost pipefish, frogfish, blue ringed octopus, harlequin shrimp and tiger shrimp to name a few. This is a very good place for photographers, who always wanted to take a picture of jawfish with eggs.
