The Famous Five liveaboard and dive safari takes you to wrecks and marine parks in the Red Sea. It is one of many different diving trips and tours you can do to Egypt. Your diving trip starts in Hurghada and then continues in the northern parts of the Red Sea. The boat continues towards Abu Nuhas, Brothers Island and Safaga. The first major stop of the safari is at the Abu Nuhas Reef with the four well-known wrecks Giannis D, Carnatic, Chrisoula K and Kimon M. All these wrecks have a rich marine life and offer exciting diving. After Abu Nuhas, the journey continues towards one of the highlights, the Rosalie Möller wreck. She lies at a depth of 30 – 50 meters.

The wreck is in relatively good condition and although visibility can be somewhat limited at times, the fish life is fantastic and the entire wreck is covered in beautiful coral. So even if you are not a wreck fan, you can see a lot here and experience the diversity of the artificial reef. The Rosalie Möller is sister ship to a more famous wreck, the Thistlegorm which is the next location for this tour. After a short sail through Gubalsundet, you arrive at the most famous wreck in the Red Sea, the Thistlegorm.

The Thistlegorm is an impressive British World War II ship with a cargo full of ammunition and vehicles to be delivered to the British troops in North Africa. She was sunk by the German Luftwaffe and is now 30 meters deep. Hopefully it is possible to do a night dive here a little depends on currents, weather and the divers experience. This is a dive you don't want to miss. If you're lucky, you can dive here and even see dolphins and reef sharks.

Wrecks and Marine Parks at Ras Mohamed and Brothers Islands

Close to Thistlegorm is the famous Ras Mohamed Marine Park. Here you can do a nice morning dive at "Shark Reef". It is a lonely wall that really plunges into the depths. At this wall, almost anything can appear. Whale sharks, hammerhead sharks, manta rays, dolphins, tiger sharks, thresher sharks, silky sharks, albacore sharks and several other large pelagic species are seen here from time to time. The Dunraven wreck is also located here at a depth of 25 metres. Ras Mohamed is the last site at Sinai before your diving trip now heads south towards the Brothers Islands.

Brothers Islands is one of the marine parks that offers wrecks and reefs. The Brothers Islands are located about 60 kilometers off the coast and consist of two underwater mountains that rise from the abyss. Here you have fantastic wall diving with walls covered in colorful soft corals, gorgonians and various sponges. A real splendor of color that gilds the big blue with its brilliant colors. Brothers attracts a wide variety of marine and pelagic species. Large tunas, barracudas and snappers are often seen swimming along the walls. Here the chances of seeing the big sharks are even better than at Ras Mohamed.

For those who love wrecks, there is also the Egyptian ship Aida II and the cargo ship Numidia. Both of these wrecks are covered in both hard and soft corals and there are almost always plenty of gray reef sharks here. After Brothers, the boat turns back towards Hurghada via Safaga. As a perfect finale to this diving safari, dive on the famous Salem Express wreck or at Panorama Reef.

Note:

As Brothers Island is a marine park, the Egyptian authorities have required all divers to have at least 50 logged dives. You must also be a certified PADI Advanced Open Water diver or equivalent. Night diving is prohibited within the marine parks. That, combined with strong currents in the area, means that there are rarely more than three dives per day at Brothers.

The tours of wrecks and marine parks in the northern Red Sea go by many names and the tours are often very similar. Depending on the season, weather and liveaboard operator, the tours may be called differently but the content is often quite similar.
