Matangi Private Island Resort is located on its own 240-hectare island in the north-eastern part of Fiji. This exclusive privately owned island is a unique paradise. A little island shaped like a horseshoe with untouched tropical rainforest, white sandy beaches and volcanic rocks. Here, nature rises from crystal clear waters and coral reefs where there is an abundance and diversity of marine life.
This unique paradise has been in the same family since 1878. An adventurous ancestor who sailed on a schooner from Sydney during the "Great Fiji Rush of 1870" bought the island. The island was operated as a small coconut plantation until 1986. Then Flora Douglas, whose great-grandfather had bought the island, and her husband Noel Douglas began to develop Matangi into one of Fiji's premier holiday resorts.
Dining area
There are nine authentic Bures and three unique Treehouses, all made from local hardwoods, bamboo, lava rock and coconut palm tubes. They offer a harmonious balance between nature and modern elegance. The resort is surrounded by a lush tropical garden yet only a stone's throw from the private beach. Here, all Bures offer seclusion in a spectacular tropical setting.
The spacious dining room, “Vale-ni-Kana”, is located just 30 meters from the private beach. Here you have a fantastic view of the sea and the exquisitely landscaped garden. It is built entirely from local timber. All with beautifully carved posts decorated with coconut fiber ropes that exude Fijian charm.
The cuisine is largely influenced by the tropical environment, Fijian heritage and the unique flavors of the South Pacific. The fine dining and spa services complement well and make Matangi the ultimate honeymoon or wedding destination in Fiji.
Ocean Spa
The Ocean Spa has an overwater deck with relaxation area, gift shop and two treatment rooms for couples. One of the rooms has a unique lava rock rain shower. The spa has been inspired by traditional Fijian culture and the island's natural surroundings. It has an interior with intriguing carvings of tropical fish and marine life, lava stone and local hardwoods. Respect for Fijian culture and the sea is reflected in the various treatments on offer. Among other things, the Fijian "Bobo" massage, "Lava Shell" massage is offered here. Also "Hot Stone" massage and body treatments such as "Earth Sea Salt" and "Coconut Sugar Glow".
