Belize Liveaboard Safari
The best way to experience the wonderful diving in Belize is clearly a liveaboard safari. You will be able to do four-five dives per day for several days and see the very best places. Day trips are also possible but they are long boat trips. You also don't get as many dives and it's unfortunately not exactly cheap to go from Ambergris Caye on the coast. Expect around $USD 300 for a day trip with three dives to see, for example, The Blue hole. The Belize Liveaboard safari is clearly more affordable as you can dive several dives. In addition, all inclusive and the accommodation on board are included.
Under your live board you will experience the best spots at the various atolls located outside the barrier reef off the coast of Belize. Turneffe reef, Glovers reef and Lighthouse reef are all much talked about spots. Three atolls that offer very good diving. Along the reef you have a good chance of seeing different species of shark, for example nurse shark, bull shark, Caribbean reef shark, black tip, lemon shark and hammerhead shark are all possible to see.
Whale shark and splendid toadfish
Perhaps the shark species that attracts the most interest is the whale shark. The world's largest fish pass here regularly and especially during the months of April and May. One or two days before the full moon and up to ten days after, it is common to see these huge plankton eaters. Also March, especially if the full moon falls late, and June are often good months to see whale sharks. The liveaboards that run around these dates are usually booked up early, so plan and book in time. No matter when you dive in Belize, you will experience some of the Caribbean's best diving regardless.
Another very spectacular species you can see here and at Glover's reef is splendid toadfish. It is pretty much only here and at Cozumel in Mexico that you will find this amazingly beautiful fish. It is said to be found along the coast of Belize and Mexico, but it is considered to be precisely these two places where it is "safest" to be able to see it. But it still requires good luck. Take the chance to experience diving in Belize and if you are going to go diving, it is a diving trip with liveaboard which is clearly the best and most value for money.
