TME Retreats in the Maldives and Dhigurah Island in South Ari Atoll have a very special attraction. Whale sharks thrive here very well. All year round you can here dive and snorkel with the world's largest fish along the atoll's outer reef. A 30-minute flight takes you from Malé to Maamigili, followed by a boat trip to the neighboring island of Dhigurah. TME Retreats is one of the island's first guesthouses and they also run their own PADI dive center, Island divers.
Dhigurah is a quiet island with a small selection of local restaurants, cafes and shops. The island has kilometers of white beaches and a fantastic outer reef where whale sharks are seen several times a week. The guesthouse offers diving, snorkelling excursions, visits to deserted islands and sandbanks, dolphin safaris, night fishing and various water sports. It is also possible to visit nearby resort islands if you are interested in trying the luxury life for a day.

You can reach TME Retreats and the island of Dhigurah by domestic flight from Malé airport in about 20 minutes and then you take a boat for about 30 minutes to the resort.

The diving here is organized by Island Divers who have their diving center on the island. The variety of diving in this area is absolutely fantastic. The dive center's geographic location allows them to offer diving in both northern and southern Ari. There is even the option of taking you to Vaavu Atoll for the famous night dives at Alimatha which means the dive center covers the very best parts of a classic liveaboard itinerary in the Maldives. However, the most popular dives are just around the corner. Along the outer reef on the southwestern edge of the atoll, whale sharks are seen basically every day. This is by far the best whale shark diving spot in the Maldives and liveaboard boats always pass this spot during their routes. Here you can both snorkel and dive with whale sharks, sometimes several at a time.
Southern Ari also offers many cleaning stations for manta rays and during the southwest monsoon (June to November) you may be lucky enough to see them circulating in large groups with their gapes open to capture as much plankton as possible. The atoll also has incredibly beautiful inner reefs and colorful walls with very rich fish life.
