Highlights
During this time of year (February – April) pure clear water moves in from the eastern side of the Maldives. Currents from Sumatra (Indonesia) not only provide fantastic visibility, but also a great diversity of different pelagic fish that come to the Maldives to get something to eat. If you want to experience close contact with a lot of sharks, Deep South is just the right trip for you!
The diving will be done at Huvadhoo and Laamu Atoll which is one of the southernmost atolls in the Maldives, an area that has significantly fewer divers due to its more remote location. Some of the shark species that visit this Atoll during this time are Hammerhead Shark, Silky Shark, Tiger Shark, Gray Reef Shark.
The currents during this time of year are usually stronger than usual in the Maldives. In addition, you will dive in natural channels in the reef and between the different islands which cause the currents to be strengthened. This is something that the pelagic fish are attracted to. In addition to the beautiful sharks, tuna and manta rays that also move onto the reefs, there are incredibly beautiful coral reefs down in the southern Maldives. There is also a lot of macro diving available. You can enjoy nudibranchs, scorpion fish and leaf fish. If you are lucky, you will be given the opportunity to snorkel with them whale shark!
