Diving at Tufi
The diving center at Tufi Dive resort is a few minutes' walk down a hill. Directly at the fjord, you can dive both from land or go out by boat to outer reefs and along the coast. The outer reef experience is unmatched with a choice of dozens of world-class dive sites. We have some of our favorites: Cyclone Cay, Black Rocks, Stewarts Reef and Shark Tip. Here you can dive on the famous Blackjack, an intact B17 bomber, as a special dive.
Spectacular marine life abounds in the Solomon Sea. Barracudas and various fish in shoals. Also large fish such as hammerhead sharks, reef sharks, mantas, eagle rays, groupers and pelagic fish. There are also soft and hard corals here. You'll also find loads of invertebrates in a pristine environment that is largely unspoiled.
The fjords on the coast are excellent for macro diving with gobies, nudibranchs, shrimps and mussels. These animals can be seen while diving but the conditions are also ideal for snorkeling. There are plenty of sponges and coral species inside the fjord system and there are some very large sponges and table corals that are not common on the outer reefs.
Bommies out in the sea
5-10 nautical miles off the coast is a row of reefs or so-called "bommies". Reefs that come up from an astonishing depth of up to 600m to a nice safety level of 7-5m below the surface. The experience of the outer reefs is second to none. Here you have a visibility of over 30 meters all year round and a water temperature of 26-29 °C. Here you will experience spectacular marine life with an abundance of different sharks including the rare white hammerhead shark, shoals of fish and an abundance of small animals, perfect for macro photography.
The majority of the reefs in the region are still unexplored and it will be some time before the full diversity of the Tufi reefs is known. The resort focuses on reef and muck diving and all diving is led by PADI trained dive guides. The resort is well equipped with diving boats. Crystal at just over 9 meters is spacious and has comfortable seating. The boat has a shower and toilet and is well equipped with all safety devices. With a speed of 20 knots, divers get less time traveling and more time underwater.
All boats are fully equipped with first aid kits and oxygen treatment equipment. The resort has four other smaller multi-use boats equipped for diving, fishing or sightseeing.
