Walindi Plantation Resort PNG

Walindi Plantation Resort in PNG is located outside the town of Hoskins at Kimbe Bay on the island of New Britain. This is perhaps one of the world's most famous diving resorts. Despite the fact that very few visitors make the long trip here, many of the world's most famous photographers have traveled here over the years. It really is the place for magic, relaxation and fantastic diving. As well as offering, bird watching, culture, beautiful nature and a lot of history. The resort began on the shores of Kimbe Bay in 1983 and has since become a fully family-owned resort that has now reached its third generation.

The resort has grown to include 20 accommodation units, several day diving boats and several of the fantastic liveaboards found in PNG also depart from here. Febrile and Oceania are two really good liveaboards that run diving cruises over large areas but mainly in Kimbe Bay.

Simple but comfortable accommodation

Walindi Resort has two types of rooms, Bungalows (premium room type) and Plantation House rooms (standard rooms). Bungalows are detached 'bure' style accommodation, with en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans (no air conditioning), tea and coffee making facilities. There is also a small fridge, wardrobe, desk and a private veranda. For those who are looking for accommodation and focus on diving, this is a really good option for you.

All bungalows are located along the beach and have sea views. The Plantation House rooms are slightly smaller, but still have the same features as the Bungalows. These rooms are built in a block of four rooms that share a common porch and overlook the garden. The room price includes all meals, daily laundry service and wi-fi in the main resort building.

The food is served in the simple but pleasant restaurant. Here you are offered good food with a variety of meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. The patio around the pool is a natural place where everyone gathers for meals. After the day's dive and perhaps for a cooling drink in the evening, it is also popular. Diving in Kimbe Bay, Papua New Guinea

New Britain is north of the main island and in the Bismarck Archipelago the diving is generally fantastic. At Kimbe Bay the waters are home to lush and diverse marine life and fantastic reef structures. Pristine and colorful corals are home to a variety of fish, crustaceans and invertebrate life. Many of the reefs have more or less stationary shoals of barracuda and various species of tuna. A number of shark species are regularly seen, including hammerheads and silvertips, particularly on the offshore reefs. Groups of dolphins passing between dive sites often entertain divers. Occasionally sightings are made of killer whales, pilot whales, whale sharks and other marine life passing through the area. Of course to the delight of both guests and staff.

Great diving and great experiences

Walindi Resort has three purpose built day trip boats to take you and all guests diving and snorkeling the wonderful waters here in Kimbe Bay. Viken has over 40 different locations to choose from. It offers a wide variety of dives – underwater mountains, incredible walls, amazing coral gardens, large fan corals and strange little creatures. The dive sites are suitable for all divers and regardless of the length of your stay. There is also history beneath the surface with wreckage from World War II aircraft and boats.

Walindi Resort has a full service dive center where the day boats are docked and prepared each day to go out. The dive center has a compressor room for refilling tanks, including Nitrox. There is also space here for rental equipment. From the moment you arrive, Walindi Planation resort staff do all the heavy lifting. This allows you and others to spend more time relaxing and enjoying the beautiful dive sites. Walindi takes care of your equipment, sets it up, packs it down and washes it every day.

All you have to do at the end of the day is get off the boat. All equipment is also fully washed, dried and returned prior to check-out.
