Diving in Saudi Arabia Liveaboard to Seven Sisters diving in the Red Sea
Seven sisters and diving in Saudi Arabia with a liveaboard is experiencing the Red Sea at its best. A liveaboard and dive at Five Corals in the Red Sea in the waters off Yanbu is to experience some of the Red Sea's best diving. You can go here to these fantastic reefs all year round and experience magically beautiful coral formations, exciting and dramatic wall diving and lots of large fish and sharks. You usually start from the port of Yanbu, which is about a four-hour drive from your hotel in Jeddah, and then head west for a couple of hours to dive along the plateaus that stretch out into the big blue. Here you have good opportunities to experience shoals of large pelagic animals.
Silver tip, silky shark, hammerhead shark, gray, black and white tip reef shark are frequently seen here. Perhaps the greatest asset is the vertical walls' enormous richness of species and splendor of color. Sponges, gorgonians, hard and soft corals and whip corals extending from the walls are everywhere. Here you will experience entire healthy coral reefs teeming with other marine life. Further south is the Mansi reef and an atoll called Shaáb Suflani. Here you will also experience multitudes of sharks, rays and large shoals of fish that connect the reef with the great blue shimmering sea. The reefs here drop down to a depth of several hundred meters. It is therefore important that you keep track of your balance as it is easy to be hypnotized by the fantastic reef here.
Five Corals – and several other reefs and “sisters”
From Sha'ab Suflani you travel further south to the area known as Five Corals. These are precisely five coral atolls facing the town of Rabigh. These fabulously beautiful and magnificent reefs are located a short distance from each other and welcome you to an area that feels completely virgin. The Maria reef is without exaggeration one of the most fascinating dives that will leave you as a first time diver in its depths speechless. From the first meters of depth, you will notice the impressive presence of different species of fish: from tuna to shoals of trevally and barracuda. Shoals and fish swimming undisturbed all along the plateau surrounded by clouds of fusiliers, surgeonfish and anthias.
The feeling of really diving in a real aquarium where soft corals almost completely cover the coral covered surface. Joey-revet, Noura, Mary Ann and Mary Jane are the other 4 “sisters” that differ from the first because they have completely different morphological characteristics. Huge coral reefs with walls covered in gorgonians, sponges and various corals. The walls here drop vertically into the depths while schools of hammerhead sharks, eagle rays and manta rays often pass by out in the big blue. If you're lucky, you can experience all these pelagic giants even at night along the southern plateau of Joey Reef.
With a bit of luck, other shark species such as thresher shark, gray reef shark, thresher shark, tiger shark, bull shark and silk shark can also be seen out in the blue. Large Napoleon fish,, turtles, large parrot fish, loads of anemones and clown fish and much more can be experienced in this magical coral garden. Sometimes you are lucky and can both snorkel and dive with dolphins. The currents are often strong and can go in all directions. The reward is an incredibly rich marine life where sharks are basically guaranteed to be seen.
At least 30-50 logged dives
A recommendation and general rule is you have at least 30-50 logged dives to dive here. Preferably +50 dives and deep divers as well, as it is not unusual to dive to 40 m. You should also have at least advanced open water or equivalent to get the most out of it. You really want to get the most out of a diving trip and diving in Saudi Arabia from a liveaboard. There are sometimes strong currents in the area and the guides are there to ensure that everyone can experience the diving in the best way. You should be used to diving in flowing water and have good control over your balance.
Important to know is that the nearest pressure chamber is in Jeddah and is 10 hours away by boat. It is not allowed to evacuate by speedboat in Saudi Arabia, so when you dive at Seven's sisters and the reef outside Yanbu, keep in mind that it is far away and that diving is a bit restrictive. This is one of many great diving trips and liveaboards you can do with liveaboard in the Red Sea and Saudi Arabia with the help of us at Scuba Travel. Diving in Saudi Arabia with a liveaboard will be on everyone's lips so take the opportunity to do it now.
