Diving Trip Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands Diving Safari in Micronesia
A diving trip to Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands, Micronesia is a very special and amazing diving trip. The trip can only be completed with a liveaboard and is aimed at those who have dived a lot and have training for more technical and deeper diving. Diving trips to the Bikini Atoll have only recently started to take place and you should be very familiar with and appreciate being on a liveaboard. You will dive on wrecks located at great depths that few have and will be able to experience. When you arrive in the Marshall Islands, you land in Kwajalein Atoll. Since Kwajalein is a US Army area, it is a restricted area and visitors are not allowed outside of the airport area. Upon arrival, you and the other travelers will come to an area where you will be held while your luggage is searched, by both staff and dogs. You will remain here until the bus comes to pick you up for the ferry to Ebeye Island. The ferry is run by the US Army. On arrival at Ebeye, a representative from your liveaboard will meet you and other guests for transfer to your liveaboard.
Mandatory minimum certification and experience requirements
As the average depth of the wrecks in Bikini Atoll is around 50 meters, this trip is only suitable for technical divers with previous experience in wreck diving and deeper dives.
- Open Circuit Divers* must be certified as at least PADI Tec. 50 or equivalent, with at least 100 logged dives and documented wreck diving experience.
- Rebreather divers must have normoxic trimix certification (TDI Mixed Gas CCR Diver, or equivalent), with 100 logged dives and documented wreck diving experience.
*PLEASE NOTE: The boat does not provide Trimix for O/C during the Bikini Atoll voyage. Guests who do not meet the minimum certification and experience requirements will not be permitted to dive. No diving courses can be offered during the trip to Bikini Atoll.
- All guests must have dive-specific insurance that covers technical diving, emergency evacuation, medical care and recompression chamber costs.
Details of the itinerary
Your Captain and Dive Leader will plan a maximum of 2 dives per day, with a minimum surface interval of at least 4 hours between your dives. Number of planned dives during your dive trip and liveaboard:
10 nights: up to 13 dives
11 nights: up to 15 dives
13 nights: up to 19 dives
Although the boat will try to ensure that the number of dives listed above is met, bad weather and conditions on and in the sea may hinder the boat's time to and from Bikini Atoll. Therefore, it can affect some of the captain's and dive leader's planning of the trip and the number of dives that can be completed. Your diving trip to Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands has a planned and intended route but can be changed by the captain and divemaster on site.
Note: It is mandatory for guests to take an afternoon off from diving in the middle of the trip. We will offer an optional visit to Bikini Island and a beach barbecue on this day.
Note: Marine and port charges are subject to change without notice. The applicable amount at the time of departure will be added to your onboard incidentals payable before disembarking.
We respectfully ask that all divers stay within the scope of their training and experience and dive carefully. We also strongly recommend insurance that provides coverage for missed dives and additional costs that may arise as a result of a situation that may result in the vessel being forced to return to Kwajalein prematurely.

Itinerary on your liveaboard
Day 1:
Transfer by ferry from Kwajalein Airport to Ebeye Island which takes about 25 minutes from the US Army base. You board the boat between 15:00 and 15:30. After boarding, there is an introduction to the boat and about safety. After that, dinner is served. There is no diving on the first day you board.
Day 2:
If possible, the captain and dive leader will schedule a dive on Prinz Eugen in Kwajaleina Atoll in the morning before the boat begins its crossing to Bikini Atoll. The total distance from Ebeye to Bikini is 406 kilometers which corresponds to a 25-34 hour cruise depending on weather conditions.
Day 3:
You arrive at Bikini Atoll in the afternoon. The diving on this day depends on the crossing time from Ebeye and the arrival time in Bikini.
The following diving days are planned as follows:
Breakfast followed by briefing and dive 1
Lunch, relaxation followed by briefing & dive 2
Snack, relaxation
Dinner
The safety and diving briefings take place in English.

In the middle of the trip (day 6, 7 or 9, depending on the length of the trip (10,11, 13 or XNUMX nights)):
Only 1 dive in the morning. After lunch, you and the other guests will have the opportunity to do a shore excursion on Bikini Island. After that there will be a beach barbeque or you can stay on board and relax.
No alternative dives will be offered on this day.
The day before you leave:
Depart Bikini Atoll early in the morning to cross back to Ebeye.
The last day
You will arrive at Ebeye around 10.00am. You will disembark between 10.00:12.00 AM and XNUMX:XNUMX PM, depending on when the ferry to Kwajalein departs and when your flight departs.
Note: All guests are responsible for planning and following their own dive profiles and decompression stops as well as having appropriate dive insurance for technical diving. When planning deep dives and extended bottom time, keep in mind that medical and recompression facilities in the region are extremely limited and remote. In the event of a diving accident in Bikini Atoll, the trip will be interrupted to allow the ship to return to Kwajalein. One does NOT support recompression in water.
