Sea of Cortez liveaboard and safaris liveaboard

The Sea of Cortez with a liveaboard is a diver's paradise. Here there is a unique ecosystem between the Californian peninsula and the Mexican mainland. Along with the overall natural beauty, it has earned the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Come and see with your own eyes why this sea is called "the aquarium of the world" and all its natural wonders.

The Sea of Cortez is full of life from huge groups of curious dolphins, sharks, giant whale sharks, sea lions, mobula rays, cow nose rays and sperm whales. Here you will encounter shoals or tornadoes of fish and sometimes even manta rays. At Cabo Pulmo you often have bull sharks and during certain months large numbers of whales come and pass. The true giants of the sea, blue whales and gray whales are common and several other kinds of whales come here during the winter and into the spring.

For a few months of the year, you have the chance to experience enormous shoals of mobular rays with upwards of 100 individuals. They gather here every spring and in recent years killer whales have been frequent visitors. Hammerhead sharks also migrate into the sea in May and stay until the beginning of winter. For a few weeks a year there are often plenty of marlin here, but the ultimate place to experience them is probably on the other side of the peninsula out in the Pacific Ocean.

The Sea of Cortez is teeming with life

Here you will meet playful sea lions in Los Islotes, swim in and be surrounded by a tornado of large tuna. You can meet giant groups of dolphins, several species of turtles, rays and mobulas, sperm whales, gobies, hammerhead sharks around El Bajo and Los Animas, whales of all kinds, shipwrecks and night dives. And if you're lucky, you can see giant manta rays swimming around La Reina and killer whales. Here you have large and small fish all the way down to adorable seahorses. Here you will also find different species of strange blennies and several species of squid and nudibranchs. There are even wrecks here that can be experienced during a night dive.

The water temperature rises to 26-28 degrees in September and visibility is as clear as in your bathtub. It's the Sea of Cortez in high season. Diving is considered best from mid-May to the end of November.

Several liveaboards and safaris, even day trips, are offered here and there are several different routes and focuses. For example, some tours go in the northern parts of the Sea of Cortez with Midriff Island. Other tours go from north to south or vice versa, covering the whole of this vast ocean. Most liveaboards and safaris in the Sea of Cortez go in the southern parts for 5-8 days but sometimes a few extra days. The content and focus of each tour is tailored to the season and what is likely to offer the best diving.

For those of you who don't dive, there are also fantastic opportunities to snorkel and experience fantastic things.
