Dive with One Ocean Stone Town

  • Daily boat trips to nearby dive sites
  • Snorkeling excursions by boat
  • Full range of PADI diving courses

The dive sites you reach from Stone Town include both nice reef diving and some wrecks. There are four reef areas, Bawe Island, Murogo Reef, Pange Reef and Nyange Reef. The diving depth varies between 12 and 24 meters and offers varying coral formations, coral species and scattered "bommies". Other wildlife is typical for coral reef diving and here too there is great variety. The most popular wreck is "The Great Northern" which was built in 1870 and sank on New Year's Eve in 1902. This is a shallow dive of 12 meters. You can find slightly more advanced diving on the wreck "The Royal Navy Lighter" which lies at a depth of 30 metres. Common to these wrecks is that they also offer teeming wildlife and some coral.

The One Ocean dive center is located in both Stone Town and at Matemwe and takes you out to the dive sites by either speed boat or with the more traditional "dhows" depending on the dive site and weather.

Unlike the diving at Matemwe, at Stone Town you are not at all dependent on the tide, but the diving starts at the same time every morning and afternoon and night dives are also offered.
