This course in diving medicine contains both practical and theoretical elements. For those doctors who have a recreational diving license, there is the opportunity to participate in the arranged diving trips. For course participants without a recreational diving license, there is the opportunity to try diving with an instructor.

The course focuses on assessing health/suitability for diving (Fitness to Dive FTD), where assessment and determination of fitness and cardiopulmonary status are one of the most important components. This also includes advice on lifestyle and dietary issues. Together with experienced instructors and dive guides, diving becomes part of the training. Concerning divers' communication and interaction, which are important factors in preventing accidents. Since all students live in the same hotel, the "free" time also becomes part of the training in that the students' own experiences from previous practice can be discussed, compared and compared to statistics and proven practice.

If you want to prepare for the course and have a source for further information during the trip, you can buy Hans Örnhagen's book "Diving Medicine and Hyperbaric Physiology" Student Literature, 2011, Lund. It There will also be material for reading on www.ornhagen.se .Here you can also find photos from previous courses. Contact Hans at hans@ornhagen.se for questions about courses.

Bonaire

The western and southern coasts of Bonaire offer incredibly diverse diving. In the north you’ll find steep walls and hard coral, while the south beckons with soft coral, white sand and calm slopes – perfect for a relaxed dive. It’s teeming with fish, sponges and squid – and if you’re lucky you might see manta rays, eagle rays or even a whale shark passing by.

A must is the Hilma Hooker wreck, which is shallow and easy to dive at, with fantastic visibility and the chance to see larger fish such as tarpoons and sharks.
The resort house is a gem — full of life, perfect for photography and film, and easy to return to if you want to take a picture. In the evening, it's also an exciting place for night diving, where large tarpon will happily join you in the light. In short – Bonaire has it all, whether you're a beginner or an experienced diver. Here, all you have to do is dive into the adventure.

What can I see when diving in Bonaire?

The marine life in Bonaire is rich but quite similar wherever you dive. The northern parts are steeper and have more hard corals while the southern parts show off high swaying coral forests with soft coral, shallower and lighter sandy bottoms. Generally the diving is easy and you swim straight out and follow the reef and then come back to shallower water. Schools of fish, invertebrates with colorful sponges and swaying corals and sometimes larger animals such as sharks and rays can show up with a little luck. There are a couple of wrecks here and for those who like technical and a little more advanced diving that is also available.

Buddy Dive resort

Buddy Dive resort on Bonaire is located directly on the sea just north of the town of Kralendijk. There are several buildings here with accommodation for just over 100 people. The fantastic thing is that it is hardly noticeable and you can often feel alone. Divers come here from all over the world and many go here again and again.

The group package includes boat dives, which gives you access to Bonaire’s best dive sites with a guide. However, should you ever return to Bonaire on your own, the hotel is unique with its well-known Drive & Dive concept, also known as Diving Freedom.
