A liveaboard in the Southern Maldives during the spring is known for offering encounters with big fish. Join Scuba Travel's ambassador Klas Malmberg on an exciting and different liveaboard through the Southern Maldives in March 2027.
This is a trip for those who want to experience the exciting diving of the southern Maldives. Here you have very good opportunities to see sharks and large fish. Here you will also have the opportunity to learn a lot about marine species and what you see below the surface. Klas is also a very good UV photographer and can give tips and ideas on how you can develop your photography.

Klas is a trained marine biologist and shares his knowledge and research on sharks and rays during the trip. This means that you get something truly special. The focus is always on the experience in the water.

Southern Maldives – currents and rich in marine life.

During six eventful diving days you will make 2–3 dives per day. 16-17 dives are included and calculated during the trip.
You will fly domestically from Malé, the capital of the Maldives, and then back so you will be far from where the usual and most liveaboards operate.

You will start at Koodoo Atoll and end in Addu Atoll which is south of the equator. During the trip you will pass Fuvahmulah Atoll. The atoll consists of a single island and is famous for its sharks. Here you will have the opportunity to dive with tiger sharks which are normally found here all year round. (Please note that wildlife is moving and cannot be guaranteed)
The reefs and channels here in the southern parts are teeming with marine life and it is often quite current, especially in and out of the channels when the tide is out.

Big Fish and Fuvahmulah

Common encounters in these waters are manta rays, eagle rays and stingrays, but other species of rays are also occasionally seen.
Tiger sharks, reef sharks are relatively common and sometimes whale sharks, guitar sharks, hammerhead sharks, thresher sharks and other larger species can also pass here. A dive at Fuvahmulah with a local dive center will be conducted to dive and look for tiger sharks which are normally very common here.

Spring is considered the best season in terms of weather in the Maldives. It is also the time of year that the southern Maldives is at its best and most accessible for liveaboarding. Then you have a lot of activity in the water and very good chances of encounters with larger animals. During the trip you have relatively good opportunities to see several species of sharks, including various reef sharks, nurse sharks, but also lemon sharks, whale sharks, thresher sharks and some of the larger and more spectacular species hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks and whale sharks.

Normally, there are plenty of manta rays, various species of stingrays and eagle rays and sometimes even electric rays.
