French Polynesia safari

When we say French Polynesia, you probably, like many others, immediately think of small picturesque islands scattered across a crystal clear sea. The islands are surrounded by white beaches and in their center are green swaying palm trees. Beneath the surface, you have clear visibility and can swim alongside sharks and large schools of fish among colorful corals. Quite right, that's exactly how it is.

You will spend a number of nights on board the luxury liveaboard French Polynesian Master, a boat built in 2016 and making her maiden voyage in May 2016.

Above the surface, you will be looked after by crew and guides, served delicious food, relax with a book in the sun and enjoy a stunning view that changes daily. Beneath the surface, you can take part in action-packed dives in clear, tropical water. You dive into the heart of the Pacific Ocean where hundreds of sharks swim alongside manta rays and bottlenose dolphins.

You will visit the reefs at Rangiroa Island where hammerhead sharks, blackfin sharks, silky sharks, tiger sharks and silvertip sharks are often seen hunting for schools of fish. You will also get to dive at northern Fakarava Island. Here you can do a current dive in a 1200 meter wide channel and hopefully get to see full shark action and see several Napoleon fish. In the Tuamatu Archipelago you will find several shallow dives with fascinating hard and soft corals surrounded by schools of curious fish. There is so much to see below the surface around the islands of French Polynesia. You will quickly fill your memory card and have many wonderful stories to tell your loved ones.

Program

Day 1 - You leave Scandinavia and fly to Fa'a'ā International Airport (PPT) in Tahiti.

Day 2 – 3 - You land at Tahiti airport and get a transfer to a hotel near the airport where you check in and stay for two nights to secure against possible baggage and flight delays (costs are added for hotel and transfer). The days in Tahiti are spent on your own.

Day 4 - You check out of the hotel in Tahiti and get a transfer back to Tahiti airport where you get on the plane to Fakarava. At Fakarava airport you will be picked up by French Polynesian Master staff and given a short transfer to your liveaboard. The liveaboard departs from the airport itself. You get a briefing on the safety on board, then you have to show your diving certificate and the like and fill in papers that you are in shape for diving. You will also receive a preliminary plan of what the arrangement will look like during your stay on board.

Day 5 - Today is the time for your first day of diving. You will start with a simple check-dive to make sure all the equipment is working well and that cameras and such are in place. After the first check dive, you will complete two more day dives and, if the weather permits, you will also do an evening or night dive. There are currents in several places in French Polynesia, so night dives in particular can be difficult to complete, but the guides try to get an evening dive in instead.

Day 6-12 - Whole diving days! You are out with the liveaboard and go to different dive sites around French Polynesia. Your days usually look like this. You wake up and eat a very light breakfast. You will then receive a briefing on the first dive site and jump in to dive. You come out of the sea and eat a proper breakfast, relax for a while and then get a briefing on the day's second dive and jump into the pool. You eat lunch, relax, get a briefing on the third dive of the day and complete this dive as well. Here it will then be time again for relaxation and some snacks.

In the evening it's time for your fourth dive briefing and then you do an evening dive or night dive (depending on what is possible at that particular dive site). The day ends with dinner in good company. Places you may visit during this safari are Rangiroa Island, Apataki Island, Toau Island, Fakarava, Tikehau Island and Kauehi Island. Which dive sites there will be in the end depends on the weather, wind and currents.

Day 13 - This is your last dive day and you will therefore only do two morning dives to leave enough space between the last dive and the flight.

Day 14 – 15 - Today you check out from the liveaboard around 10:00 at Fakarava Airport (FAV). You will be transferred to your terminal to travel back to Tahiti. Once in Tahiti, you will be transferred to the same hotel as last time, where you will stay one night to secure against possible delays. The following day you get a transfer back to Tahiti Airport (PPT) and get on the plane home to Scandinavia (costs are added for flights and hotels).

Day 16 - By now you should be back in Scandinavia again with memories for a lifetime and memory cards full of fantastic photos.

please note - Our solid program is only a preliminary plan that is influenced based on the external conditions that the weather gods reward us with. This means that we may have to move activities and dive sites to other days and also replace planned activities with alternatives if required. We ask you to be flexible. The captain and the guides on board always try to do their best so that you get as many and good dives as possible, with safety as the first priority. Your expedition leader is there to make sure you get the most out of your particular expedition.
