Shark trip Maldives in March 2025 - For those who love big fish
Southern Maldives with Magnus Lundgren 04-15 March 2025

Diving trip and shark trip to the southern Maldives with spring Ambassador Magnus Lundgren. Take the chance to go on a diving trip to the southern Maldives to experience many and large animals. Lots of rays, sharks and it is often that you have a chance to experience tiger shark, manta ray, whale shark, eagle ray, thresher shark and hammerhead shark. It is also home to the Maldives' best-preserved and thriving coral reef, teeming with marine life. A unique trip with a big focus on big fish.

Your accommodation - On this diving trip you will stay on two different islands in the southern Maldives, Addu Atoll and Fuvamulah and both islands offer so-called guesthouses. This means that you live on the same islands as the locals and it is not as luxurious as the resort islands. Instead, in addition to fantastically good and exciting diving, you also get the opportunity to experience local life in the Maldives. Fresh fish, vegetables, fruit, pasta and rice are almost always on the table, but sometimes other dishes are also available.

Diving - During this safari, which is specially made to experience large fish and with the opportunity to photograph, you will dive around the equator and experience the fantastic reef and the amount of large fish. Addu atoll is known for often offering manta rays, but also other larger animals such as tiger sharks, hammerhead sharks, thresher sharks, eagle rays, marble rays, stingrays, whale sharks, marlin, schools of barracuda and tuna are frequently seen. If you're lucky, you may even see the strange guitar sharks or various types of reef sharks as well as spinner sharks and fin sharks. The reefs here are also very well preserved and healthy in general. Around Fuvamulah, the reefs are more affected by severe weather, but many and large fish are also often seen here.

Tiger sharks are seen all year round and it is feeding or chumming to bring in these giant animals at Fuvamulah. Other sharks come along and the species richness is normally very good. You should be well used to long and deep dives to +30 meters to dive here to get the most out of this very special and unique trip.

Your ambassador - Magnus Lundgren will be your cicerone, photo coach, guide and leader on this trip. Magnus, who has over 25 years of experience in leading expeditions all over the world and as a trainer in photography & UV photography. "It has always been my goal to help expedition participants at their own level of ambition, so that advice and tips can produce results there and then."

Experience shark diving in the southern Maldives

The southern Maldives is known for mainly manta rays all year round but also for many other large fish and in many places well-preserved coral reefs and lots of fish. Here the focus is on enjoying stream diving, cleaning stations where manta rays come in daily. Close contact with various species of shark and sometimes large shoals of rays sailing over the reefs. Whale sharks are not entirely uncommon and you can see the gray reef shark all year round. Not to mention the large shoals of colorful beautiful fish swimming along breathtaking coral walls. Diving in the Maldives will not disappoint.

A trip focused on experiencing large animals and photographing will take you on long and slightly deeper dives, which is why we strongly recommend that you are used to this type of diving. It's a long way to pressure chambers here so you should be comfortable with and feel confident with longer and deeper dives on this trip. Some places go through so-called chumming to feed mainly tiger shark while other places can have them completely naturally.

Common shark species are, otherwise, blackfin and whitefin reef sharks, spinner sharks and gray reef sharks. But also silvertip shark, yearfin shark, guitar shark, whale shark, tiger shark, hammerhead shark, thresher shark and sometimes also other species such as the rarer spot tail shark and also nurse shark and zebra shark are seen regularly.

Rays are common and here you can almost always see manta rays in the right places, but eagle rays, marble rays and various stingrays are also common. These cartilaginous fish are often accompanied by other large pelagics such as marlin, sailfish, tuna, barracuda and, on rare occasions, even lumpfish. For those who like big fish, this is a really exciting destination to experience.
