Cayman Islands

In the middle of the Gulf of Mexico in The Caribbean, South of Cuba, west of Jamaica, northeast of Honduras and east of Mexico is located in the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands are a self-governing British Overseas Territory. The country consists of the three islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman,

The capital is George Town on Grand Cayman. It is the most populated of the three islands. The islands are perhaps otherwise best known as tax havens. Here there is plenty of jet set life and plenty of fantastic accommodation and boats. The two smaller islands lie a little to the east and offer fantastic diving with good visibility and beautiful walls. You prefer to go here and dive if the weather permits.

Very good diving

Unfortunately, Cayman has never really made itself known as a diving destination outside of the United States. The fact is, however, that there is actually incomparably good diving here in some places. Sharks can be seen regularly, the wall dives are dramatic and with exciting formations, swimthroughs and caves. These walls really plunge into the deep. If you want to access the best dive sites, it is liveaboard that applies but there are diving centers that can reach some of these places from land. The marine life is typically Caribbean, corals, sponges and here you will find turtles and shoals of grunts, barracudas and more. Sometimes you see large groups of squid or, with a little luck, seahorses and frogfish.

Single wrecks are also found here, of which Kittywake is perhaps the Caribbean's most famous. One of the most talked about dive sites in the world, Stingray city can also be found here in the Cayman Islands. It is a shallow bay where large numbers of southern stingrays gather daily. Here they show themselves to divers and are one of the world's most talked about places for UV photography.

A week's liveaboard in the Cayman Islands is a wonderful adventure with varied and good Caribbean diving and why not combine with a few days ashore or an exciting combo with Mexico, the Dominican Republic or Cuba.
