Fiji has a motley and rather violent history but today is a real paradise for adventure, diving, sun and swimming and meeting amazing people. Fiji consists of just over 300 islands and became an English colony in the 1870s but was given self-government as late as 1970. The country used to be called the "Cannibal islands". Here you can find everything from backpacking to super luxury and depending on which part or which island you are on, the experience will be totally different but also very rewarding.
Diving in Fiji
The diving in Fiji, or world soft coral capital as it is sometimes called, is colorful and varied. From magically colored coral reefs that seethe with colors from various soft corals to wall diving and coral gardens that slowly slope out to great depths. Here is one of the world's best places to dive with bull sharks (feeding) at "the arena". It is also one of Fiji's most famous dive sites.
In Fiji there are several endemic fish species and the waters are generally rich in fish. Here you can also see various reef sharks and in some places also hammerhead sharks that slowly glide in the blue or look for reefs. Sometimes you also come across the big beautiful tiger shark too. A rare meeting that will tingle a little extra in the stomach. Some of the world's largest tiger sharks have been seen here in the southern parts of the Pacific Ocean. There is also the opportunity to disturb various whales, dolphins and manta rays and at least five different species of turtles. Weather: The climate is tropical. Average temperature in water and air is around 28 degrees. Dry season between March and November Rainy season between December and April.
Clothing recommendations: So-called casual clothing is accepted on the boat and resort. Women should wear a slightly longer skirt or shorts when visiting the local villages.
