Truk Lagoon i Pacific is probably the ultimate diving trip for those who love wrecks. With its pleasant and stable climate all year round, this is a dream destination for many divers. The temperature is usually always between 26 and 30C degrees. Just the name Truk Lagoon gives enthusiasts fantasies of endless sunny days and magical diving. Holidays in paradise with days where the blue horizon stretches endlessly along the sea. But it's not just the live in the Pacific that attracts us to this destination. The paradise for divers is mainly below the surface, where an unimaginably beautiful world hides and full of history.

Truk Lagoon is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and is a mythical lagoon, and a paradise for wreck lovers. Over 60 shipwrecks and 250 aircraft wrecks lie here today. They rest here under the surface at varying depths after Operation Hailstone, where on February 17-18, 1944, the United States carried out a massive and devastating attack against the Imperial Japanese Navy. Chuuk - previously called Truk or Lagoon - is one of four states that together make up the Federated States of Micronesia.

Long journey

To get here, some planning is needed and there may be a stop on the way depending on how the flight connections look like. Expect it to take at least 2 days of flying to get to this little piece of paradise. Here, however, you will not only find old war wrecks, but here there are many details from the war also on land and below the surface you can find lots of nice coral reefs and here there are normally plenty of sharks. It is actually possible to do clean shark dives here in the lagoon as well. 

Most of the wrecks are located on a relatively small area so living on land is perfectly fine as the wrecks are not that far from the diving resort. Do you want to make one live board is also quite possible. You will then come across a few more wrecks, but usually you lie quite still. Here you often run with the "open deck" principle, i.e. diving is allowed at any time when your liveaboard is stationary. All you need to do is keep track of times, depths and surface intervals. If you like wreck diving, Truk Lagoon is an absolute must at some point during your diving career.
